Wellcare of Louisiana has entered into an agreement to work with the Smoking Cessation Trust to fight tobacco use in Louisiana! Through this new relationship, Wellcare will bring to its Louisiana members a program of active outreach to make its members aware of the FREE smoking cessation benefits offered to those who began smoking cigarettes prior to September 1, 1988, the date for benefits set by the Orleans Parish Civil Court by its decision in Scott, et. al vs American Tobacco Company, et. al.
"We are extremely excited about this new partnership with Wellcare because they bring such a well planned, active program through which Wellcare's health support systems employees in Disease Management, Case Management, Member Services, and other areas in the health plan will be fully engaged in trying to encourage its members to stop smoking. Wellcare has procedures that will direct its members that qualify to the Trust Benefits to be approved for free smoking cessation services. By making the Smoking Cessation Trust program a formal part of their program, we should successfully reach their members with the news about our FREE benefits." said Mike Rogers, CEO of SCT Management Services, the administrator of the Trust program.
Implementation of this partnership will begin in the second half of August and should be fully operational in early September 2013. We encourage any Wellcare Louisiana member residing in Louisiana, who began smoking cigarettes prior to September 1, 1988, to either contact their Wellcare Louisiana member services number or the Smoking Cessation Trust.
