Slidell Memorial Hospital to Offer Smoking Cessation Trust to its Community

Slidell Memorial Hospital has made a commitment to actively reach out to the citizens in its community who use tobacco products, to assist them in their cessation attempts.

In this country, no public health initiative can have as positive an impact on the general health of Americans as efforts to help those addicted to tobacco-use to finally quit!  One component of cessation that Louisiana is fortunate to have is the FREE cessation services, available to Louisiana residents who began smoking cigarettes prior to September 1, 1988, that are available through the Smoking Cessation Trust.  The Trust provides, for free, to all approved members of the Scott Class, all modalities of Tobacco Cessation  Treatment recommended by the U.S. Public Health Service's Tobacco Treatment Protocol "Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence: 2008 Update".

Slidell Memorial's Smoking Cessation team is actively working with the Smoking Cessation Trust to facilitate the enrollment of as many qualified residents of the Slidell community into the Smoking Cessation Trust program as they can reach together .  Through this program, residents of the Slidell area can receive the following services for free:  1)  Telephone Coaching in cessation, 2)  Medical visits for cessation counseling and to obtain prescriptions for supporting medications, 3)  Group counseling in cessation, and 4)  Free medications used to support cessation, available through community pharmacies.

Quitting is not easy!  But, with the aid of benefits available through the Smoking Cessation Trust, quitting can be more successful, and maybe a bit less difficult!  Sign up today at www.SmokeFreeLA.org .
